About Litton Village Shop

The Shop

We have a paid, part-time manager, Carol Millington, however, the majority of our opening hours are staffed by an army of local volunteers. If you feel that you could offer to help for a few hours per week or on an occasional basis, please let us know as we are always very grateful for new volunteers.
We are supported by the Co-operative Supermarket who supplies us with stock for the shop. Carol visits the Matlock Store on Tuesday and Friday to buy stock for the shop – if there is something you want, then please ask and she will do her best to get it for you. As well as groceries we stock a wide range of other products, including coal, kindling and logs; stationery and greetings cards, wine and beers.
The shop is a popular stopping-off point with walkers, tourists and even the community bus for refreshments including home-made cakes, tea and coffee, and Bradwell’s ice-creams. You can place an order for your shopping. Orders are required by Thursday evening, and will be available for collection Friday lunchtime onwards. There is no charge for this service and you will only be charged the Co-op prices for these goods.

We sell a range of meat which is supplied by local butcher, Castlegate Farm Shop of Stoney Middleton who delivers fresh meat, twice weekly, on Tuesday and Friday. We normally have a stock of bacon and ham in the fridge and, in the freezer, sausage, chops and mince etc. Additionally, you can place an order for joints, pork pies or quiches etc. Fresh fruit and vegetables are purchased from local markets and locally grown produce is always welcome to be sold alongside it. Locally produced free range eggs are also stocked. We run a newspaper delivery service in the village and papers can be ordered for delivery on Monday to Friday, and for collection from the shop on Saturdays and Sundays. We also stock 'Litton Larder' puddings including Penny's Sticky Toffee Pudding, featured in BBC TV's 'Village SOS'.

Litton Village Hall

The Committee of Litton Village Hall would like to extend a warm welcome to you and hope you will enjoy living here. Litton has some 130+ houses whose inhabitants have a wide range of occupations, interests and hobbies. Some residents’ families have lived here for many generations, a large group have lived here for over 20 years and others are relative newcomers; the Primary School has recently been expanded to accommodate the many children in the village.

Our Committee – all Villagers – are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Hall, which was built and given to Litton in 1907 and was originally designated as a “Working Men’s’ Club”. It is situated in the Village centre facing The Green, and celebrated 100 years on August 17th 2007.
We organise and supervise all bookings for the Hall for both private and commercial use. The building is hired for a variety of uses and occasions. These include The Village School, The Parish Council, two Doctors’ weekly surgeries, the W.I., the Church and Methodist Chapel events, Pilates and other exercise groups, the table tennis club, snooker club etc. It is also used for a Polling Station, and during Well Dressing time to serve refreshments. It is hired out for a very wide variety of talks, and a curtain across the room enables small amateur theatre/musical productions to take place.

Other uses include various family party celebrations throughout the year. There is seating for approx 50 people and the Hall has full kitchen facilities. There is a level wheel chair access and a toilet for disabled persons.
Upstairs has a well maintained full size snooker table for Villagers' use and a table tennis table is also available. The Committee run a ‘200 club’ and have a monthly draw at our ‘open to all’ meeting, usually held on the second Monday each month at 7.30pm. A list of all our committee and their phone numbers is posted on the Hall’s notice board [and the Village Shop]. We’d welcome your contact and be happy to answer queries or give help if required.
The hire costs: £4 per hour for private use and £6 per hour commercial use. We look forward to meeting you; with best wishes from Litton Village Hall Management Committee.
